Be careful in there!
On House Detective (9:30 AM EST on HGTV) today, a ceiling joist of the home being inspected was twisting because someone had removed part of a wall to make a doorway larger--way larger! Think twice about removing walls to make homes look more open.

That's a needed warning--many home owners have removed walls in their homes only to find that they had removed a load bearing wall.
In Home Remodeling and Makeovers (Woman's Day Specials; Vol. XV, #5), when architects removed a wall in a kitchen remodel, instead of hiding a support beam, they reinforced the original wood studs with a length of salvaged railroad track.
I've been writing stories since I was a kid. My stories and articles have been published in print magazines, webzines, and anthologies; and my SF has been published in two audiobooks, including Sugar Time. My books include Strike Three, Detour Trail; Building a Cool House for Hot Times without Scorching the Pocketbook; a children's book, Why Won't Anyone Play with Me?; two story collections:The Doorway and Other Stories (SF) and Aliens, Animals, and Adventure; and four e-books: Hidebound, Pretty Pink Planet, Hot Yellow Planet, and Remodeling: Buying and Updating a Foreclosure. I live in Florida with Blizzard the Snow Princess and Bryn the Flying Corgi.
